Juba, South Sudan | 27 July 2026 – The National Elections Commission (NEC) welcomed representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the official launch of its Civic and Voter Education Programme, an initiative aimed at enhancing public awareness and promoting informed citizen participation in the country’s anticipated General Elections in December 2026.
The ceremonial event marked an important milestone in the Commission’s nationwide Civic and Voter Education Programme, which seeks to equip citizens with accurate information about the electoral process, encourage peaceful and informed participation, and strengthen public confidence in democratic institutions.
On the sidelines of the event, the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission, Professor Abednego Akok Kacuol, held discussions with members of the Russian diplomatic delegation on the Commission’s preparations for the electoral process and the importance of sustained international cooperation in supporting South Sudan’s democratic transition.
During the meeting, the representatives of the Russian Federation reaffirmed their country’s readiness to continue supporting the people of South Sudan in the implementation of the electoral process, recognizing the forthcoming elections as an important milestone in advancing peace, democratic governance, and constitutional order in the Republic of South Sudan.
The discussions further underscored the critical role of civic and voter education in fostering an informed electorate, encouraging broad public participation, and promoting peaceful, credible, and transparent elections.
Both the National Elections Commission and the Embassy of the Russian Federation expressed their commitment to maintaining constructive engagement and cooperation in support of South Sudan’s democratic aspirations and the successful conduct of the electoral process.
The National Elections Commission appreciates the continued support of the Russian Federation and the wider international community in strengthening democratic institutions and supporting preparations for South Sudan’s electoral process in accordance with the Transitional Constitution, the National Elections Act, 2023 (as amended), and the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
