NEC Trains State Elections Committees on Voter Registration Ahead of December Polls

JUBA, 2 September 2026 – The National Elections Commission has begun training members of the State High Elections Committees and of the three Administrative Areas in voter registration, ahead of the general elections planned for December 2026.

Participants have been drawn from the ten states and the three Administrative Areas. The training is intended to give State High Elections Committee staff the practical knowledge, skills and experience to conduct voter registration efficiently and effectively during the pre-electoral period, in compliance with the National Elections Act 2012 as amended in 2023.

Addressing participants, the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission, Prof. Abednego Akok Kacuol, said inclusive voter registration across the country is the right of every eligible citizen and would determine the success of the December elections. He emphasized teamwork and coordination among the State High Elections Committees to ensure that registration is inclusive nationwide throughout the electoral process.

The Chairperson of the Unity State High Elections Committee, George Kong Gattang, said Unity State was ready to begin registering voters on his return to the state.

The Chairperson of the Warrap State High Elections Committee, Jacob Anei Manyiel, urged the citizens of Warrap to turn out in large numbers to register to vote.

Under section 34 of the National Elections Act, voter registration is the foundation of the electoral process and is fundamental to a complete electoral cycle. The success of the coming elections depends on state elections officials.
